Configure wireless network security on vista?

i have a wireless network and am trying to add security to signal being broadcast from my wireless router, im using my laptop to do this...

i have download several guides on how to do it with vista, but anytime i configure a secure connection i get locked out of my own network... and can't reconnect so im stuck with having an unsecure wireless network...

the guide i used for this is here: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/communi...

i follow this guide and use:

security type: WPA-Personal

Encryption type: TKIP

Network secuirty key: a password

as soon as i enable the security i can't connect to rest of the network.... i so don't get it....

Try WEP at first. Once you are comfortable in setting up encryption, you can move up to the more secure WPA encryption.
Reply:wep sucks, use wpa. its way better. then you have to go to all the computers on your network and right click your icons on the bottom right hand side of your screen (probably 2 monitors side by side) and select "connect to a network"

it will ask you for the wpa code to connect. then your good. wep is old and not as secure.
