Help with an advanced Network printer issue?

I have an HP1320 connected to a printer hub and plugged into the wall. I added the printer to a couple of new PC's and it was working fine. Went I went to add it to another PC I got the message "the print driver on the server is the incorrect one" so I used a driver I found online. Since about then, I have not been able to locate the printer on the network (Previously it would show up when accessing the network folder under the "Printers and Faxes" folder, now that folder doesn't show up under the network folder on any PC) The printer can no longer print from any of the new PC's it was installed on. It only prints from the PC belonging to the administrator, who is also the owner of the printer on the network. Even on that PC, it still doesn't show up on the network folder, but it still prints. It cannot print from any of the PC's it was newly installed on. Any help?

It is set to share with the whole workgroup, yes?

Does it show up in network neighborhood?

Network browser history traceable?

Is it possible to trace the browser history of other computers on a computer network? I get the feeling my brother has been snooping in on me... *grrr*

Network browser history traceable?
No. Unless:

a) You're using hubs on your network, and the computers share a hub

OR

b) Your brother has admin access to the router/switch

OR

c) You're using unsecured wifi

OR

d) You have a VNC server installed and running on your PC

My Wireless Network Doesn't show up!?

Hi guys, basically my wireless network will not show up on my either of my laptops or desktop computer. I have been using this linksys router for over a year with no problems but 2day I went to connect as I do everyday, only to find my wireless network is not in the list. So the first thing I do is restart it, unfortunately that doesn't work so I am stuck with things on what to do. I know that the router is working because I can play xbox live through it on my xbox. The lights on the front indicate that its receiving the ethanet and internet but it still doesn't seem to omit my wireless network!! My wireless adapters in both my laptops are 100% fine as I can pick up other people's networks in my street.

You may want to take into consideration that last night I had a power cut which happened whilst the router was on, could this make a difference?

Thanks in advance.

My Wireless Network Doesn't show up!?
Instead of just re-starting the router, try re-booting it (there should usually be a small hole on the back to access a micro, and I mean micro, switch), that will return it to its factory settings.

An easier option, if the router lets you - sometimes when they're being awkward they don't, connect to the router via the ethernet from one of your laptops, and go into the router set-up page, (usually http://192.168.2.1/ ) through your browser, check whether all the settings are as they should be, if not, change them, or opt for restore to factory default setting, and start again.

Hope I've been of some help
Reply:Get on your routers setup page, type in, 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 into your brower and there should be a place that says "hide SSID" and make sure it is unchecked. Its happened to me before and that was the problem.
Reply:well this happens to me quite a bit with all the laptops in the household but it just happens to just blow over for me... but all i do is unplug the router then plug it back in, wait a few minutes then im surfin
Reply:Try to restart the router as well... if not works, try to re install it in ur laptop, meaning u have to delete all the network connection and re-find it.... else u have to contact the service center
Reply:Hiya,

Right mate restart your router if that doesn't make things better then call the router company if its under warranty then theyll replace it then things should be fine

OR

If not under warranty then you will have to buy a new one

Home Wireless Network help please!!!!?

Hi guys, i have a home wireless network. My ISP is orange broadband. I have 2 computers, one laptop and also my printer connected to the network. I should be gettin 8MB speed but on my computers, i only get 2MB each. However orange say that i should get 8MB speed. Is this becasue i have 2 computers and a laptop connected to the network? Does a network share out the speed with everything connected to it? If yes, how do i stop this from happening, as i don't need a speed of 2MB on my laptop and i hardly use it. Also does the printer take a speed of 2MB aswell?

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

Home Wireless Network help please!!!!?
If more than 1 computer is active on the router it should share out the connection evenly, this is ONLY applicable when the computers are activly connected to the internet. If you only have 1 computer actively connected to the router you should be getting 8MB speed average, this also depends on your transmit power of your router and the speed of your line.

The printer should not be taking up any MB at all, UNLESS if its a totally wireless printer.
Reply:I'll take it that you are referring to 8MB/s and 2MB/s? This would be 64Mb/s and 16Mb/s respectively.

More info is needed.

What are you trying to do and how are you getting your speed measurements?

What is your advertised speed of your "orange broadband"?

What wireless network do you have setup? Router capabilites (b? g? n?)? Wireless adaptors capabilities? (b? g? n?)

Wireless 802.11b is only 11Mb/s.

Wireless 802.11g is only 54Mb/s.

Wireless 802.11n is supposed to be 111Mb/s.

Wired networks are 10Mb, 100Mb, and 1Gb (1000Mb).

So you understand the difference:

MB = MegaByte

Mb = Megabit

8 bits = 1 Byte

I don't know what you know or how much you know, I'm just trying to clearify things first.
Reply:No, the network only shares the speed dinamically, as it is required.

Probably the data from Windows refers to the LAN (local area network == home). The 8MB advertised by your ISP applies to WAN (wide area network == internet).

Check your actual speed with some internet benchmark.

I have used this several times. I found it very accurate.

http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest?flas...
Reply:theoretically the max ISP connection is 8MB.

you have a LAN which is a shared medium (if one computer transmits at the same time as another computer, these two signals run into each other causing a collision on the network)

to stop this a protocol is implemented for ethernet - CSMA/CD collision detection and due to this only one computer is able to transmit at any one time.

if 2 computers wish to access the internet PC1 will recieve data via the internet connection as will PC2 - however because of CSMA/CD only 1 computer is able to recieve data at any time, So PC1 will recieve some packets at a given time and PC2 will do the same.

In reality this is not simultaneous sharing of bandwidth, it just seems like it because it happens soo quickly.

so your laptop doesnt use any 2MB bandwidth over the internet unless you are accessing web pages etc.

in summary, your net connection is only used by computers accessing internet content such as web pages, chat programs, file sharing programs etc.

if the computers are not being used, the internet connection speed is not compromised in any way (not noticably anyway).
Reply:You have to improve your network range, speed and stability.

Wireless icon disappeared on my (Network Connections)!!!?

im using PC not laptop

after I formatted my PC I connected USB of wireless then windows asked me for CD I put the the CD of Linksys Wireless-G USB Network Adapter and eveything goes well

I can view the networks and choose which I want to connect but after 2 days I decided to change network then I was shocked !! that the icon of wireless wasn't on the bottom right near the clock and also wasn't on the Folder of (Network Connections) there was only Local Area Connection and im not using cable and i don't have cable for my PC

I clicked on the Local Area Connection and i choose the option (Show icon notification area when connected) and still not working with wireless

I also tried to System Restore not work

also I tried to enable and disband in Device Manager that's only helped to disconnect my connection

I only need to change networks i want to veiw networks name

why it disappeared :( ??

Wireless icon disappeared on my (Network Connections)!!!?
In the device manager, does anything show up as a yellow question mark or something that would indicate that the computer can see a wireless adapter?

The Local Area Connection is always going to be there as long as the computer knows you have a driver for the LAN adapter. So don't worry about that.

Find out who makes your laptop, go to their website and download the driver for the wireless card and install it. Don't download the extra software, just download the driver. Windows can manage the wireless connection.

Setting up a home network?

I want to set up a home network. Networking 4 P.C`s together.Sharing the net. I am looking to set up a wired not wireless network.I have had different answers to the problem but the ones I have tried dont work. All pc`s using xp professional.I have a hub.. a switcher and cable modem.Windows shows me a plan that I must use but it will only let the first pc connect to the internet.Despite altering settings on the network wizzard. I`ve been told I need a router. I keep buying stuff but it seems to me too many solutions that dont work. I have a network now that uses the USB port on the first pc. No problems but it does not spread bandwith properly. One pc hogs all the bandwith. Any help would be great. All pc`s are on the same group.

Setting up a home network?
All home networks don't spread bandwith properly.

Plug the modem into the network hub and run the network wizard again. Make sure all computers are in the same workgroup. That should then work. If not, contact me.
Reply:Yes, your best solution would be to buy a router. Use the router to connect to your internet, and then run a network cable from the router into your hub shared by all the PCs. Remember to run the networking wizard on all the pcs.

But if you can't buy the router and are stuck with the cable modem, then feed that into the first PC and set up Internet Connection Sharing on that PC... allow all the other PCs to access the internet through that one.

If you have problems with bandwidth sharing, you can limit your first PCs bandwidth access using these tools...

http://www.netlimiter.com/

But I really believe the first option is better in the long run... it is how must everyone does it.
Reply:Try using this document.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/docum...

Hope that helps.
Reply:You need a router. Plain and simple.

From your cable modem you then plug your wire into your router and then plug your PC into the router.

Most likely your router will support up to 4 different PCs.

You can also use your Ethernet Switch and plug a network wire from your router right into your switch and then plug other PCs right into the switch to expand your network. For example, if friends came over with their notebooks to play a game or something.

I recommend you also buy a good software firewall program and don't use the firewall option that comes built-in to Windows.

I love Zone Alarm's Internet Security Suite as for one low price, you can install the program onto 3 separate computers and not only is this an excellent firewall program, but it includes virus and spyware and IM protection.

Windows Vista Network Adapter Problem?

My family bought a laptop last July. It worked, except when it went on screensaver or we closed the laptop it would make the adapter switch go on 'off' and disconnect from the internet, which was really annoying. Now even when we move the switch to "On," the light stays red (It's usually green when the switch is on and red when it's off) and refuses to connect to the internet. Now, I'm not exactly sure if it's a driver problem or if the actual network adapter switch is messed up, so I was wondering if someone could tell me which Network adapter driver I should switch to or what I should do. It can't be a modem problem since my other 2 laptops can connect. My parents lost the installation cds by the way.

Windows Vista Network Adapter Problem?
I experience the same thing, so normally what I do:

1. Unplug %26amp; plug in the wireless router power adapter (may work and may not work)

2. Restart the laptop (always work, wireless connection will appear and auto connect)

3. Open my virtual PC (wireless connection will not switch off)

I don't know how to fix this thing automatically

Please help with my network problem, i beg you!?

OK, let me brief u : i have a single laptop which i am using at home and at work. The thing is the workplace has a different network and i've set up my laptop to use that one while i am working. Now when i get home i have a different, single user, internet connection. The problem is i want to connect to the internet at home too and that i dont want to modify the network settings of my workplace network settings to do that.

Is it possible to create another lan connection on the same lan card ? I've got a realtek fast ethernet one and i was thinking about deactivating on lan connection (workplace) and activating the other one (home) or the otherway around.

Is that possible ?

I tried clicking "create a new connection" bla bla but couldnt do a thing :(. To put it more easy, i want 2 connections on the same device (same network card). Is that possible? my network settings are easy to apply, i just have to modify ip, dns, gateway etc but i keep forgetting them so a solution is needed.please

Hidden wireless network?

i cant connect to my wireless network at home. it says its a hidden network and im currently connected to someone else network ( dont know who). how to i find the hidden network and connect the bars at home are bigger than the linksys im using right now

Hidden wireless network?
If you haven't set it up already you have 2 options. Go to your wireless router and turn the beacon back on, then go to view the wireless networks and connect to it. You can now turn the beacon back off.

Or you can open the network status for your wireless go to properties, and go to the wireless networks tab. Here you can add your wireless network's name you gave it and any encryption key needed. It should now be able to connect to it. You still may have to go to View Available Wireless Networks, Connect to your network, and disconnect from the other one.
Reply:You need to configure the device manually, you must know the network name and the passphrase or passoword, or whatever you used to secure the network. If this really is your network then you should know this

Upgrade wireless network with router and/or network card?

I set up my home wireless network about a month ago but the signal strength is always very low, file transfer is VERY slow (transferring large files is important to me) and streaming media files are often interrupted. I have AT%26amp;T DSL and my 2WIRE modem is also my wireless router. My laptop is equipped w/the factory g wireless card. I want to upgrade my hardware to improve the signal and capabilities so I'm thinking of getting G+ MIMO or N hardware.

I want the least expensive but effective solution. Will upgrading the router but not network card but keeping the same router make any significant difference in performance? How about just upgrading the router? Or both? What is the approximate performance improvement of each of these options? Are there potential problems w/hooking up a separate router to a modem/router combo (even w/disabling wireless on the 2WIRE)?

I'm learning as I go with networking....not as savvy as I'd like to be so I appreciate the help!!

Upgrade wireless network with router and/or network card?
Wireless on these modems is always poor. Replace it with a combined router/modem, anything will give better wireless performance. Just make sure you mount the router as high as possible and clear of obstructions. Since the inbuilt card is limited to G do not go mad on getting a very expensive router, it will have no advantage.
Reply:First off, make sure you are connecting to YOUR modem. My son had a similar problem, and it turns out he just connected to the first thing he saw in the connect window. It was the neighbor's system, not ours.

Another thought, are you sure that your modem has wireless capability? I have AT%26amp;T, and got the cheap $49 modem because I already have a Linksys Wireless-G router that I got for Junior while he was away at school. The cheap modem does not have a wireless output, just the ethernet port.
Reply:What kind of wireless band are you using? ABor G? A has a limited range of distance and transfer rate. B-has at least 11mbps with and G-has a 54mbps. Make sure you have both G wireless band from router and your wireless divice.

How do I connect 2 separate wireless network "cards" to 2 different wireless networks?

I have read somewhere on here that you can have 2 separate networks with 2 separate wireless network cards. But it still doesn't work. The network "dies" when both are enabled, but if I disable 1, then the other one works. Why? they're 2 different networks %26amp; "cards" (I say 'cards' because, 1 is a card %26amp; the other is a usb adapter) I need to find out how to configure the network if thats what's needed. BTW, I have access to only ONE of the routers (network only), but not the router with the internet. The reason for this is my actual card has a bad antenea, but will connect with the router right next to it (Network only). The USB is brand new %26amp; connects to the router with the internet.

Thanx

How do I connect 2 separate wireless network "cards" to 2 different wireless networks?
Here's the way I do it. Your mileage may vary.

I have "my wireless router" (D-Link DIR-655) on top of my computer. I plug that directly into my desktop's onboard gigabit Ethernet adapter and using Ethernet to one of the Gigabit ports of that wireless router. The WAN socket of "my wireless router" is connected to the DSL network bridge (DSL modem) via Ethernet also.

I also have a D-Link PCI wireless "draft n" adapter in this system. I have that connected via wireless signal to a seperate wireless router to keep our "internal only" wireless network more secure. That's the network we have the machines on that don't require Internet access, and the 2 wireless printers.

You should have one of the wireless adapters connect to wireless router A and the other wireless adapter connect to wireless router B. If that doesn't work, move your wireless router next to your Computer and see if it works when you plug an Ethernet cable from your computer to the router into it.
Reply:Trying to connect to 2 routers always causes problems as they give conflicting information to the machine. If you have no authority from the owner of the router you have no access to you should be aware that this is illegal and can carry a prison sentence.

Finding the Network Password of my Wireless Network on Desktop?

Okay so, we recently bought a new laptop and need to hook it up so that it gets wireless internet from our router. Problem is, it asks for a network key to get into our wireless network, and we totally forgot the password. Anyone know how this password can be recovered so we can get into the network on the new laptop?

Finding the Network Password of my Wireless Network on Desktop?
Depending on the router brand, you can reset the router to open status - which gets rid of its password. Logging on to your router to reconfigure manually - as mentioned above - requires a password even by default. That may not work for you, huh?

If you're satisfied with an open access point - that's it! Connect and have fun!

The reset button is on the rear. Usually pushing it for 5 seconds works. Some need to have power turned off - then on with reset button pushed.

If you then want to turn some security back on, check the router manual to discover default username and password. Since they all run Linux, they are all fairly secure. If it's permanently setup secure like the 2Wire series, the pass phrase for other machines is printed on the rear.

Good luck.
Reply:Just go into the router set up, it should be under security or wireless, depends on the router. Just type 192.168.1.1 into your browser that should get you in, if not, start%26gt;run typ cmd then type ipconfig and the default gateway will be what you put in the browser.
Reply:If you are talking about the 2wire wireless router, please reference the numbers in brackets that are found at the bottom of your gateway.

Otherwise, please contact your wireless router manufacturer.

Which TV network has a history for the MOST ACCURATE polling (or use of data) in predicting election results?

So many creative things can be done with the collection of and interpretation of "research data" that it becomes very important to know how information was collected, how much of it was collected, where and when it was collected, etc.

The major networks are in a competition to see who can predict the results of an election the soonest. But in their zeal to be the first, they will conduct their own "exit polls" at voting stations, then broadcast the results which often has an influence on the remaining voters who are deciding whether they should vote or stay home based on how things look.

I don't doubt that TV Networks have their own "favorite candidates" and might even selectively choose which polling stations they take their "research" from in an effort to sway the voting public in the direction they prefer. And I think that's slimey which is why we need (and have) more than one network.

But which Network has the best record in this department for accuracy and fairness?

Which TV network has a history for the MOST ACCURATE polling (or use of data) in predicting election results?
I believe that would be either ABC or NBC, although I have no facts to back me up on that.

Need to get wired-network driver for linux working... Please help...?

How can I get wired network access on my hp pavilion a6152n in linux. It doesn't detect that I have a adaptor

Tried with Foresight Linux and Ubuntu but it shows my network as disabled and the only available selection is modem. Not interested in alternate versions of linux, I would like to get it working with one of these flavors.

The network works fine with the pre-installed OS of sucky Vista, this is a brand new computer I purchased so everything is working no hardware issues. Looking at the hardware details in linux, it is detecting an HP network device but does not display it as an available choice under network, only dial up settings are displayed to select from. I'm guessing this must be some propritary device that is currently unknown to linux, but is there anyway to make it work?

Need to get wired-network driver for linux working... Please help...?
Need the driver that is compatible with the network card. Is this a dual boot system? HP the proprietary people,....hmmmm, download CPU-Z from CPUID.com. Let's see if it'll tell us the maker of the card,(bet it ain't HP!)

How do you set up a wireless network with encryption?

When I get to the encryption stage of setting up the wirless network it has 4 options: 64-bit manually or automatically and 128-bit manually or automatically. The automatic options ask for a passphrase. The problem I am having is signing into the network from my laptop. When I try connecting to the network it asks for a network key. Where do I find the network key? Is this the passphrase that I have set? When I try connecting using that passphrase I get an error message saying "The network passwork needs to be 40bits or 104bits depending on the network configuration. This can be entered as 5 or 13 ascii characters or 10 or 26 hexidecimal characters." Can anybody help me to sign into my network??? Thanks

How do you set up a wireless network with encryption?
If you are generating your own network key, what you have to keep in mind is that the key must be the same on you WAP and on your laptop.

If you create a key in, say, 10 hexadecimal characters, manually, make a copy of the key. Install it first on the WAP, then use this key when you are asked for the passphrase to sign onto the network.

BTW, 26 hex characters will give you the full 128-bit encryption which is presently the strongest (unclassified) encryption standard available.

You should then store the key in a safe place, since it will be difficult to remember this complex series on numbers.

Not only your system, but all computers signing onto the network will need this same key (passphrase).
Reply:You don't need encryption. Trust me, no criminal is going to steal your cookie recipe.

How to setup a Network?

ok, simple problem. add a network card, an internet router, and a few wires. no prob. now, the interesting part. I need to know what programming language would be best to create a network, not through network cards, but through the internet. I basically need to make my a program act as a network card, and have the network stuff go through that to a computer anywhere else that i setup this program on. I'm not asking where i can get such a thing, because i can't. i know cuz i've been looking for long enough. but what programming language would you people suggest i try making this with? If you don't have any clue what i'm talking about lemme know and i'll see if i can't provide better details.

C is probably the best for something like this but if your new to programming then id suggest C++, or Java. If you know what your doing and want more variety then try APL.

Local Area Network keeps saying "acquiring network address" and it just keeps saying this and will never conn

I am in college using a computer in a dorm room, and whenever I turn the computer off and then turn it back on again later, or if it is in hibernate and I turn it back on the Local Area Network thing just says "acquiring network address", and it just keeps saying that continuously and it never ends up connecting. Sometimes, like today, if I wait long enough (about 30-45 minutes) and/or do other things like renaming the system, it will eventually connect and I can get on the internet. But other times it will not connect at all no matter how long I wait or what I do, and I don't know why. So does anyone know why the Local Area Connection icon just keeps saying "acquiring network address" and it never connects?

You can simply install another network card. They are quite cheap and start at INR 150.

Other options you could try are:

- Install Microsoft Virtual Ethernet Adaptor

- Install a Virtual Machine (for ex: VMWare, MS Virtual PC etc.), install your OS inside the virtual PC and do all your R%26amp;D without affecting your main PC OS.

Windows XP and multi network cards?

I have 3 network cards installed on an XP machine. I assigned 3 different IP addresses to each of them. I can ping through 3 different ip addresses from other machines within the intranet. But I can't ping out from this XP machine to any of our LAN computers. When I unplugged 2 of the network cables ( only one network card is hooked up with the network ), everything goes normal. So I'm pretty sure there is something I missed about the multi network card config. Can anybody help? Thanks in advance.

What is it you are trying to accomlish? You would also have to tweak the computer routing tables to tell it which subnet routes out which NIC. If you are trying to do some form of bundling to increase your network performance you are going to need some third party software
Reply:Yes , check that the class of the IP on the three cards are not the same, then check the one you are connecting to the LAN Network

Why does network utilization never reach 100%?

In task manager, you can view the network status on the network tab. Network utilization never reaches 100%. The connection dies off before it even reaches 50%. This is especially true with transfering files across networked computers. Average 0-3%; max burst 25%.

Does 1% of 11 Mbps (link speed) = 0.11 Mbps of data transfer?

Why does network utilization never reach 100%?
I think this has to do with the network overhead which is about 20% loss.

Network Security degree??
If you want to work in Network and Computing Security you might want to get out of a major that sounds developer oriented. It would be more common to have a degree in Computer Information Systems (CIS) or other similar ones. See it it is possible to change majors. Insurance 100% In network but out of network -Issue?

I have PPO insurance with 100% IN network coverage and No out of network. Even though my hospital and doctor are covered ,the lab or X ray test providers (inside the hospital) are not covered or bascially comes under out of network.if i was admitted to the hospital for pregnancy i would be paying huge sum money for the out of network coverage for which i dont have the control(lab test andX ray) and already i am paying huge money to insurance since it has 100% coverage

Any suggestions how it can controlled .

Insurance 100% In network but out of network -Issue?
Since you are using an in-network hospital, the lab and radiology are part of that hospital and should be paid at the in-network rate. As you stated, you cannot (and SHOULD not) have to check every single possible provider to see if they are in network. Since these departments work under the hospital's umbrella, they should also be covered as in-network. If the insurance will not pay these providers as in-network, you will need to find out who the preferred providers for these services are in your area and find out if the hospital uses these providers. In some cases, the types of labwork and X-rays the doctor orders MUST be sent to a lab that processes the types of labwork your doctor has requested. Not all do...

If you are admitted, submit a request in writing to the hospital that all labwork and x-rays must be sent to the specified providers and make sure that your doctor knows this and includes this in your chart.

In short, there is no easy answer here-and it seems ridiculous that you should have to concern yourself with this administrative redtape during treatment for a medical condition.
Reply:I would ask someone in the medical billing office of the hospital or clinic or birthing center how those charges are billed. It is possible they can bill in-house-- if the hospital has its own lab and x-ray service, it usually is all included and considered 'in network' if the hospital or facility is.
Reply:Maternity is usually billed on a, "global," basis. There is one lump sum paid by insuror to the provider of care, with all tests and screenings leading up to the birth included in the lump sum amount.

Network+ / A+?

Having 1 or the other, or both of these certifications...What kind of job can you expect? What kind of salary? And finally, is it hard to find entry level work? I am planning on getting these certifications and eventually gettin cisco certified in order to become a system admin...but i just want to know in the meantime if i can make a decent living with just A+ /Network + to get by and pay bills before cisco cert.

I am seeing most jobs require 1 yr or 2yrs of help desk experience so it seems its very hard to find an entry level job. So would this mean its better to just study a+ network + and cisco certs while staying in a non related job and saving $$ paying the bills that way instead of help desk?

basically, can you make it with just a+ network + certs for a year or two or do you need experience to land a job. and what salary can i expect. is $10 to $14 about right..thanks.

Network+ / A+?
It really depends since having the certifications is one thing but actually knowing what your doing is another.

A A+ will probably get you any of those computer technician jobs such as geek squad, or frys, and i believe the wage for a comp tech there is roughly in that 12-15 range.

The thing about A+, is that it isnt a really cost effective certification. You need to take 2 exams which i think are like 150 each. the Network+ is a bit more cost effective and in my opinion a lot more useful than the A+.

with only certifications its tough to get a real career but you can definitely get into the IT industry that way. Especially if you plan on getting a cisco cert, which is a very well sought cert. In order to make up for the lack of experience you will need to be able to show them that you have the ability to do these things

I recommend picking a particular IT path such as networking, security, database or whatever. Try you focus and specialize and dont try to learn everything since its pretty much impossible.

Wireless network laptop?

I'm trying to set up a wireless network using a labtop at work. I have a computer at work that is monitored by a system administrater, how can i hook up my labtop using a wireless network and without it being detected on the same network. Once the wireless network is connected can it be monitored by the system admin. Will they be able to check to see what im am doing.Becaues sometime i like to do my school work at work. Can some one help me,or are there any other options.

Wireless network laptop?
sure? i wouldnt worry about them spying on me unless i was doing something wrong... and you can use a laptop on any network you want as long as its open or you have the pass code...
Reply:WHAT....

ohhh-let me guess, you work for a bank eh....:)
Reply:you should check out this site where you can get a sony vaio laptop for free
Reply:If your Laptop has a wireless card then you can connect to a wireless network. key thing is there needs to be one available where you work and it has to be open and not locked down. If there is a wireless network open, you can connect without the admin knowing.
Reply:Um i wouldn't recommend that you network ur laptop when ur at work. cause yes they can see everything ur doing. and yeah it can by mointered.. basically if u network with them. they control just as much the computer as u do. and say u get a porno pop-up or something or anything thats not apporticate for work. its gonna show that u visted the site where the pop-up came from on there log. and then ur screwed. no i wouldn't risk ur job...

um another options is to go but a linksys router for around $30 and u can have wireless internet with that and when u got into work the next day just delte your history.

How to get network devices?

My system is Windows XP professional. i formatted my system. the installation program was successful but i couldn't find my network devices.if i go to network connections i find only blue tooth network and 1394 connection there is no local area network which helps to access the net.how to get back network devices?

How to get network devices?
Check the CD that came with your computer. If you have it, pop it into your CD rom.

Go to start, control panel, system, go to the hardware tab, and then click on Device Manager.

Check under "Network Devices" if there is anything. If you have something, and it's got a red cross, right click on it and select "enable".

If you have none, go to "Other devices" or "unknown devices". There you should find something with a yellow question mark, or a yellow exclamation mark. Right click on it, and select "update driver".

The "New Hardware Wizard" shows up.

Uncheck "Connect to the internet now" and click next. Select "search for drivers automatically", and click next. Select "search automatically" and click next. It should look for the drivers and install them automatically. Once you're done, if it says it got installed, go back to the Device Manager, and check under Network Devices that you have something with a green icon that looks like a small card. If you do, then you'll have it also in Network Connections and will be able to access a network.

Network Inventory Software?

Need a network inventory software.

Need to be able to see all models and serial numbers of workgroup computers, network printers, routers/switches.

I tried Spiceworks, it didn't find network components and it gives wrong serial numbers for printers.

Thanks

Network Inventory Software?
There really is no good "all-in-one" node inventory software package, unfortunately. However, there are several that do work well stand alone, and even better in concert with each other.

For example:

If by chance your orginization uses primarily HP printers, HP WebJetAdmin is a great package that allows you to collect very detailed information about HP printers on your network.

If your orginization uses Cisco routers and switches, CiscoWorks is a very good collection, control and inventory package.

If you leverage Microsoft desktops and servers (depending on OS level) you could leverage MS SMS for inventory control.

Intel LanDesk is also a very powerful DMI (desktop management interface) that isn't closely associated with MS - but isn't without licensing costs.

There are many packages that offer all-in-one, but due to the cost of either the licensing or the effort to configure each and every node (configuring SNMP, hunting down the MIBs and TRAPS) they might not be in your best interest.

You might even want to look to open-source to see if there are packages that do what you need.

Hope this helps!
Reply:There is no software that can accurately detect all the information you want, inventory software requires data input from a user to start with.

Have a firewall in place that will slove your problem!

Network bridging help?

i am trying to set something up so my xbox 360 will use my laptops internet.  i am using the ethernet cable, 1 end in 360, other in laptop.  i learned that i should go into network connections, highlight both my wireless connection and my local area connection, and select bridge connections.  the problem is i cant find the network connections, and the thing i have opened im not sure is the right thing.  it just says network, idk WHAT i need to highlight exactly, i just cant find it.  please, any suggestions?

Network bridging help?
you're in the right spot it could be that you are not using A CAT6 cable when you connected you xbox 360 to your laptop. The most popular cable that people have is CAT5 or CAT5e it will tell you on the cable what kind it is. And you do highlight your wireless connection and your local area connection. It could just be that you have the wrong cable.
Reply:maybe the drivers for you lan is not installed. network connections is in control panel or you can right click on your network icon and then click properties to get there. you also will have to use a cross-over cable. you don't need to worry about Cat 6 that is over kill for what you are trying to do. unless you are running your cable longer than 100m
Reply:Highlight the wired and wireless connection, the right click, bridge connections.

Home network connection with no connection - IP address related?

My home network says I have little or no connection because my IP address is not updated. I click on repair, but it says it cannot fix the problem and to contact my network administrator. It is a home network, so that would be me and I don't know what to do. The name of my network is not coming up either. Would appreciate any suggestions you may have.

Home network connection with no connection - IP address related?
If you are running a Windows based system, click on start and choose the "Run" option. In the space that appears, type "cmd" in lower case letter and click OK. On the black dos screen, after the flashing cursor, type "ipconfig" and hit enter on the keyboard. The information that displays will tell you your ip address. If the ip address begins with 169.xx.xx.xx you have an invalid ip address. If it begins with 192.xx.xx.xx you could have a problem with the router.

If you do not see the name of your home network, there might be a problem with the router you are using, especially since you cannot renew the ip address automatically. Little or no connectivity through a router generally means ip renewal problem. Try this:

Shut off all computers on the network.

Unplug the electrical power cord from the router.

Unplug the electrical power cord from your modem.

Wait 60 seconds and plug the power back into the modem.

Wait 30 seconds and plug power back into router.

Wait 30 seconds and power up one of the computers. If you have one directly connected via ethernet to the router, power that one up first.

After computer has booted up and loaded all startup programs, wait 15-20 seconds then open your web browser and see if you can download a page. The procedure I described is call "forced ip" and makes all the equipment reset and look for connections. If this does not work, disconnect from the router and go straight to the modem with an ethernet connection to one of the computers. Unplug the power from the modem and wait 30 secs, then plug back in. Then restart the computer. If you can connect in this manner, that indicates a problem with the router. If you cannot connect to the internet still, then the modem could have the problem. either way, at least you find out which piece of equipment is causing the problem.

Hope this works for you.
Reply:Ok, what you need to do is disable the network and delete the settings, make sure there is no network then go to new connection set up wizard and create a new connection, the simplest way and always works.
Reply:If you are going through a router I would restart and make sure it is pulling a IP for your ISP. I would then restart my pc or retry the repair to see if you get an IP there.

How do i network a pc with Vista OS and another pc with XP os through crossover ethernet?

i used to have to xp pcs networked together directly through a crossover ethernet cable, and they worked perfectly. i could connect to internet using one pc's internet connection and i could share files and printer. I decided to put vista on one of the pc's and now i dont quite know how to network the vista and xp. btw i'm new to vista.

i think i kinda networked them, but on the vista computer it says "this computer is connected to Unidentified Network"

can somebody explain how to network these by crosswire ethernet.. thnx

Right click on "My computer" %26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;click on property%26gt;%26gt;click on "Computer Name" tab%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;click on Change, you can also change the name of your computer to different name But Group name has to be the same in all your computers"Make sure you are the administrator when you do this ,this option is not available to Limited user accounts.Cross wire is the one you make sometimes from PC to PC ,if you know how to make cat 5(RJ45) wire (usually it is straight wire) but to make cross wire one end of cat 5 cable is regular order I think if you look at color it starts with Orange+strip and ended up with solid Brown

(1-orange+strip 2-orange3-Green strip4-blue5-Blue+strip6-green7-Brown+tr... 8-Brown) BOTH END LOOK THE SAME coloring order But Cross over wire one side is like straight wire the other side have different coloring order I send you a picture of Cross over you get some Ideas.

Home network help... need to make a password!?

Hi there! :)

There is currently a home network set up over at my house.

But the problem is, I'd like to add a password to it.

I had it before, but then we had router problems... I tried setting up a new network but my laptop won't connect to it... it says it's out of range...

I have Windows XP on both my laptop and the main computer downstairs.

I just want to add a password so my neighbours won't steal our internet connection! Lol. Right now it's "default", unsecured... basically like a blank network I guess.

Is there software that will help me with it? Or is it just a preference I need to change?? I don't want any bad software please, just maybe a network manager?

Thanks in advance!! :)

Home network help... need to make a password!?
If you log into your router from the computer that is hooked upto it directly, then you can use WEP encryption, which is basically adding a password. Usually you would do this simply be typing the IP address into Interent Explorer. Try 192.168.0.1 which is pretty standard. If that doesn't work, then you would want to look at your manual. From there, you would most likely click on a security tab and then select WEP encryption. If you do 64 bit encryption, you would just need to enter a 10 digit password and then reenter it. Once you have done that, you would want to save and restart the router.

Then on your laptop, you would double click on the wireless icon in the systray, which is in the lower right corner of your screen by the clock. It looks like a computer with radio waves coming out of it. Then click on properties, wireless networks, add, then type the name of your network, which yours is "default", uncheck the box at the bottom where it says the key will be provided automatically, then enter the same password you entered into the router in the first paragraph. Then click on OK. Your network should now be password protected.
Reply:Type in the IP address of your router into your browser. From there find the option to use WEP to secure the connection.

Dont know the IP address?

Start

Run

Type cmd in the box

from the command line type

ipconfig /all

The default gateway will be the IP address of your router
Reply:An unsecure network is the one whose connections are not encrypted. Network connections are made secure by encrypting. Encrypting needs to set up a key. Which ever system which needs to connect to this secure network will need to provide that key to connect. So, create a network encryption key.

Network or LAN Monitoring Software?

I'm looking for a good and free software that will allow me to monitor the bandwidth(upload and download) of each machine on the network.

I'm handling a network on a small office, about 15 machines are connected on the network so i don't really require a very sophisticated application. I just want to monitor the upload and download activity of each machine.

Your suggestions will be highly appreciated.

"how to delete wireless network created with xp wireless network setup wizard?"?

I saw that this question was posted awhile back. I tried going to My Network places to delete it, but nothing was there. I still get the same message.....when i double click on the wizard and click next, it says either set up a new wireless network or add new computer or devices to the "xxx" network. "xxx" refers to the "wireless network" which i created earlier on. is there a way to delete this 'wireless network"?

Please Help!!!

"how to delete wireless network created with xp wireless network setup wizard?"?
Have you looked in

start %26gt; control panel %26gt; Network Connections

When You open the Network Connections window, You will see the icons under "LAN or High Speed Internet" .Instead of deleting you can disable them from running on your computer. For that you have to right click on on if the Icons ans select Disable from the popup menu.
Reply:Try this - In Device Manager open up Network Adapters. Your incorrect (and correct) networks set up should be listed. Right click on the one you want to get rid of and select uninstall. This will remove it from your list of Network Connections.
