1394 is another name for Firewire, a connection similar to USB. It's not possible to use it as a network connection, unfortunately.

It is your firewire port. Typing in "What is 1394 connection" into yahoo brought that up at the top.

You would not use this for your internet connection.

Even if you could, currently there are no residential internet providers that can provide that type of speed. (As far as I know, and as far as you can afford.)
Reply:it's a firewire connection. you can't use it for the internet, but you can use it for other firewire devices, that's why it shows up under network connections

Windows XP provides support for Internet Protocol (IP) networking over the IEEE 1394 bus. The interface is listed in the Network Connections folder as "1394 Connection". Internet Protocol (IP) over Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. (IEEE) 1394 does not require a network adapter, but can be connected only to other 1394 interfaces; you cannot directly connect a 1394 cable to an Ethernet hub.
