My network places?

when i open up my network places? i see 3 folders...

"movie data on thinkpad" "my pictures on thinkpad"

and "Shareddocs on thinkpad" and when i click on any of those, or all of them

I get a error dialog box saying " You might not have access or permission to use this network resource. contact the administrator of this server to find out if you access permissions"

"the network path was not found"

i might know what it does, but i want you guys to tell me

am i on a shared network with my older brothers laptop?

he uses an IBM thinkpad..

My network places?
If you use the same internet connection then you are on a shared connection, and it's probably a network. So, if you want to know about the files, then maybe get on your brother's laptop to see what his settings are (or ask him)
Reply:Your brother has shared these folders, but has restricted access to them. You'll need a user name and password with access to his computer, or he'll need to grant access to "everyone".
Reply:This can happen following ways (as far as I know)

1. Either the laptop is not online. (Stupid reason)

2. File sharing service is turned off. you can turn it on in "lan connection" properties. Just put a tick on file sharing.

3. the permissions aren't set properly. maybe you have disbaled it unknowingly.

Goto control panel-%26gt; admin. tools-%26gt; local computer management -%26gt; find something called "user authentication/access" dont remember.. Just change it from "Guest only" -%26gt; "classic"

Google for more.

HTH

If the laptop has a password set on it, and has Guest access disabled, then something like this happens
Reply:Ifd his machine is called thinkpad yes. Also he has folders open to sharing, but his security is not allowing you access.
