I have a home network of 2 PCs linked through network cards and crossover cables.
PC 1 is linked to the internet and connected to PC2 with another network card.
PC 1 - The Host
PC 2 - The Client
Although I setup the network and PC2 can ping PC1 and the otherway, I don't have internet connection on PC2.
I made the ICS(internet sharing connection)settings but it just won't work.
PC1 has the ip 192.168.01, pc 2 has 192.168.0.2, gateway 192.168.0.1
It is not from the firewall because i turned it off(both windows firewall and Zone Alarm).
Need help!
My network doesn't work anymore?
check if the power is on..
Reply:I have not done an ICS link in a long time. However, it looks like PC1 and PC2 are properly configured if you meant to state PC1 has its LAN IP address 192.168.0.1 (you wrote 192.168.01 which will not work but probably is a typing error). Ping responses suggest the link is fine. Can you see network shared files of PC1 from PC2 and vice versa? If so it is not a firewall issue.
I presume you can access the Internet from PC1, if not get this working first.
If you still cannot get Internet from PC 2 can you get a ping response from pinging a public DNS server (e.g. ping 4.2.2.2)? If not there is an issue with the way Internet Connection Sharing was configured. Actually you are making a routing table that routes the unknown requests out the other port of PC1. Check the default gateway IP address of the pc1 LAN port with the 192.168.0.1 IP as this may be incorrect.
Also PC2 should have DNS of 192.168.0.1.
Double check the exact settings needed for ICS as this is likely the fault.
