Network security key?

I set up my AOL wireless modem on my desktop computer and set up a network key at the time (i think) but the computer had to be wired to te router so i have never actually used the wireless.

Now i have a laptop with built in wirless and i want to connect it to the wireless modem. It finds the network no problems but its asking me for the network security key. Ive tried typing the IP address in explorer but it doesnt seem to work, i have also tried start%26gt;run then typing cmd and ipconfig/all but i cant get the network key at all. any help please?

Network security key?
You need to login into that Modem/Router Web GUI and create a WEP 128-bit key for wireless devices like your laptop. So when a wireless laptop wants to join your network the person needs to locate your network click on to connect then will be prompted to type in the network key.

Creating a key is very easy, but do you know how to get back into your Modem/Wireless Router. Use your desktop computer connected to that device to change or create keys. NEVER, NEVER to that on a wireless connection.

Contact AOL to help you walk through the steps if you forgot to how? Also remember to create login password for your modem/wireless router to protect you network.
Reply:If you cant remember reset the router and reconfigure it. It has a reset button, tiny lil thing, Push it with a paper clip and it will reset all.
Reply:use the original pc and make a new network save the key somewhere safe
Reply:The easiest way is if you co to the computer that is already online and browse to 192.168.1.1 You will be able to log into the control panel for your wireless network. You will find the WEP in there. Write it down and then go over to the other pc and type it in.
Reply:I don't have an answer, but have probably the same question but perhaps worded differently.. Now that I have the Network Key (Security Key from the router), what do I do with it. For example where do I save this key in the system that is being setup to make use of the wireless router?

Thanks in advance and most of all: I wish that everyone have a Happy and Prosperous New Year..
Reply:to edit wireless router settings go to 192.168.2.1

then you should be able to edit preferences.
Reply:You need to uninstall the software to your wireless router (or modem). Then, reinstall it. It will take you through all the setup procedures and allow you to create a new network key. Write down the key on a piece of paper, or save it to your desktop in a notepad file.
Reply:The network key is a password that you set so random people can't connect to your network. You'll have to remember the network key (the password you set) to be able to connect.
Reply:You will have to go into the router hard wire first and set it up again. You should use a network key to keep people off your Internet connection. Most routers you can go into using IE and the router IP address, look in the documents that came with your router, if you have your CD that came with the router you can re-run it, make sure you have your computer hooked up with a network cable.

You will not be able to get into the wireless with out a key unless you go back in with a network cable and set it up first.
Reply:All you have to do is put the network key you setup on your router. If you don't know it, hard wire, login to your router and setup another one.
