Why cant I connect to my wireless network with my laptop?

I have two computers which each have internet access due to my wireless network. My phone works off of it too. My network is run by Linksys. I have a Linksys wireless USB device plugged into each of my PC's and they connect to the internet just fine. For my laptop, I have a Linksys wireless network card which I Insert into the side of my laptop. These are all windows machines. The laptop and one of the desktops are DELL and the other desktop is a Cybertron.

On my wireless network card in the laptop, the POWER light is on but the LINK light is off. When i try to repair wireless network connections, it can not complete the step "Connect to the wireless network". When I view available networks, it detects none, although I am positive that at least 3 are in detectable range (including mine). When I refresh the wireless networks list it tells me that none can be detected and tells me to make sure my wireless network switch on my computer is on.

Sorry for such a long question!

Thanks!!!

Why cant I connect to my wireless network with my laptop?
Hey.

First step, check your wireless network (wifi) card is properly installed. Go to your Device Manager (on ctrl panel) and check it's not got any error messages. Check the drivers are installed, and if not, install them.

Remember to switch your machine off and back on again after messing with settings to give your pc a chance to start over. XP shouldn't need this, but sometimes it helps.

If this still doesn't work, it would be useful to check the wifi card actually works. Is there a different slot you could put it in? If not, is there a different laptop you could try it in?

Use Microsoft's connection manager to try and search for wireless networks. If your pc still can't see any, check if your wifi card is supposed to have an external arial attached, and if it's not there, you won't be able to connect. Most laptop cards don't have one, though.

If you still can't see the networks at all, your card is probably dead. They're not expensive to replace on ebay these days, but if you're using a Dell laptop, check that the port you're using is really a PCMCIA port, as some of their laptops come with a port that only takes Dell hardware. If in doubt, go with a USB one instead.
Reply:Did the laptop ever work in this scenario?

If it did not or this is the first you are trying it, then I would get an access point and with your wireless setup and a true network card in the laptop it should work fine.
Reply:Hi... please encure that the " wireless connection icon shows enabled. that icon is inside network connections. and from your question it looks like , your wireless adapter is able to get the signal , but your compuer is no able to recogonise it . i would say , contact yout system manufracturer and enquire what trouble shooting can be done to resolve this issue.

for dell contact - 1-800-WWW-DELL , and for cybertron you can contact them at 877-737-8795 . i am sure they should be able to resolve your issue.
Reply:its not the router if the 2 PCs work off wifi as well. go to control panel %26gt; network connections and make sure the wireless adapter is enabled
Reply:Sounds like the card is getting power, but you computer isnt recognising it. Did you install the software it came with? Computers need programs called drivers to run pieces of hardware. If it doenst have the drivers the comp wont be able to communicate with the hardware, so it'll look like there is no new hardware on your computer. Look for software that came with the card, and install it if you havnt. then shutoff your computer, put in the card, power up, and see if your sysem recognises it.
Reply:The laptop may have to be configured manually - you go to my computers and on the left hand side are links to you laptop internet connects. It might be much easier to call the tech person either at linsky's (free) or the tech person which is provided by your internet provider(free).
Reply:make sure that ur pcto is on check your server
Reply:Mine does this sometimes too. I just restart it and it picks up like 20 networks from the neighborhood when it just said there was none in range.
Reply:I 'm not sure if i can answer your question, but sometimes i can help with the CHECK LIST. So, on your lap top, sometimes on one side or the other, there should be a wireless switch, make sure that is on. you should have networks available, secure or not. this should be easy to find.

If it is on and you still cannot connect, you might wanna contact your Internet provider.

hope this helps
Reply:Be sure to check that your Wireless adapter is enabled. To check this go to:

'Start', Right-Click on 'My Computer', click 'Properties', then click on the tab 'Hardware', then 'Device Manager', then 'Network Adapters' and make sure there are no Red crosses next to any of the Icons.

If that doesnt work, install any software that came (if any) with the router AND the Wireless Card and try it that way, (you may have already, but it hasnt been stated)
Reply:start%26gt;connect to%26gt;show all connections%26gt; right click wireless connection%26gt; select your wireless%26gt; repair%26gt; make sure it is enabled
