I am trying to set up a network, Im in the last stpe in the NETWORK setup wizard.?

I am trying to set up a network between two windows XP computers in my house.

I am on the last step in the NETWORK setup wizard. But it says I need to run the Network setup wizard once on each of the computers on your network. One, I don't have a network yet? and two. I don't have a network setup disk or my Windows XP CD. It also askes if i want to creat a network setup disk, so i do. I will run it on this computer. But then i take it over to the other computer and it says it isn't formatted? and i can't reformat it again.

I need some help!

Please help.

This network isn't wireless. There is a cable between the two computers.

You do not need to make a disk and you don't need the xp cd.

Run the network setup wizard on each pc.

Make sure of the following:

Workgroup name - SAME on all PC's

Computer name - Different on each pc.

Enable File and Print Sharing.

Each PC will need a Network Interface Card with an Ethernet Connector (RJ-45).

You will need a Router.

You will need CAT-5 or 6 Ethernet Cable with RJ-45 Connectors at each end. Use straight through cable not cross-over cable.

Reply:As long as you finish the wizard on one computer you can go and do exactly the same thing on the other computer. You dont need to create any disks or anything of that sort. If you are thinking of sharing files then make sure you have set ur folders or drives to share on the network.
Reply:Just skip that step. You don't need to do that. When you go to add the other PC to the network you can just run network wizard from that PC.
Reply:If you want to network two computers with just a cable, it has to be a crossover cable.

And if you can figure out how to make a crossover cable, then you can configure the network without the help of the network setup wizard.
